Say ‘YES’ to Gift Aid when you donate furniture and other goods to Emmaus Brighton & Hove and we can claim 25% tax back from HM Revenue and Customs when we sell the item.
The Government operates a scheme called Gift Aid that allows charities to claim the basic rate tax on every pound donated. Starting in November we will be able to claim Gift Aid on the items that you donate to our shops which will increase their value by a further 25%.
How do I join?
1. Complete a simple form (next time you are visiting us) or
email us and we will post one out to you. This gives your permission and confirms that you are a UK taxpayer.
2. Once you have signed up we will give you your own unique donor number.
3. Show your card every time you drop of your unwanted goods (or when we collect from you) and we can then track how much we raise from your items. For example if a piece of bric-a-brac sold for £1 we will raise an additional 25p and if a sofa sold for £100 will raise a further extra £25 at no extra cost to you or the customer.
To qualify for gift aid, you must be a UK tax payer and pay an amount of income and/ or Capital Gains Tax at least equal to the tax that we reclaim on your donations.
